Jay Johnson is a Partner at Munck Carter, and is a member of the Firm's Intellectual Property section.  His practice encompasses all areas of intellectual property law including patents, trade secrets, trademarks, copyrights, and other technology related legal rights.

Mr. Johnson has broad experience in intellectual property disputes and litigation including patent infringment lawsuits as well as enforcement of trade secret and other intellectual property rights.  He is also experienced in patent and trademark prosecution, and intellectual property transactional work involving negotiating and structuring deals, drafting agreements, licensing, providing intellectual property opinions, and performing due diligence investigations.

Mr. Johnson has handled legal issues involving a wide array of technology areas including electrical devices, semiconductors, telecommunications, software and hardware, financial service platforms, medical devices, processing, manufacturing equipment, avionics, transportation, weapons systems, chemistry and biotechnology.

Mr. Johnson serves the Dallas community in a number of capacities.  He is the 2010 Chairman of the Board for the North Dallas Chamber of Commerce.  He also serves on the board of directors for the White Rock YMCA and advisory board of the Dallas Museum of Nature and Science.  He is active in the Boy Scouts and serves as the president of the Crusader Club - the dad's club of St. John's Episcopal School.

Prior to beginning his legal career, Mr. Johnson served as an officer in the United States Navy and practiced mechanical and structural engineering as a design consultant for EMJ/Electrack in Maryland.

  • An international telecommunications company assisting in representation of plaintiffs in a $500+ million trade secret misappropriation lawsuit against a multinational corporation in connection with next generation telecommunications switching technology.
  • A U.S. telecommunications company assisting in defense of a patent infringement lawsuit brought by an IP holding company relating to hybrid fiber co-ax cable television systems.
  • A semiconductor manufacturer defending in a patent infringement lawsuit involving systems and processes for cleaning and drying semiconductor wafers.
  • A U.S. paper products company assisting in defense of a patent infringement lawsuit brought by a competitor in the private label diaper industry.
  • A U.S. semiconductor manufacturing equipment provider representing of plaintiffs in a multitheory lawsuit (trademarks, trade secrets, cybersquatting, unfair competition, breach of contract) against a competitor in the semiconductor processing equipment industry.
  • An international electronic trading and financial services company providing counsel as global patent strategist in patent prosecution, due diligence, and opinion work in connection with financial services and electronic gaming applications.
  • A U.S. banking company providing patent prosecution and due diligence review in connection with IT systems and business methods in the credit account industry.
  • An international electronics manufacturing company performing patent prosecution in connection with various semiconductor manufacturing and digital signal processing technologies.
  • A U.S. railcar manufacturing company performing patent prosecution and opinion work in connection with railcar innovations.
